AN eerie fog descended on Southend Aiport, causing big delays to flights.
Flights to and from the airport were delayed by up to two-and-ahalf hours as misty weather made flying difficult.
An easyJet flight to Palma, Majorca, due to leave at 7am, only left at 9.30am, while flights to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, Munster, in Germany, Maastricht in Belgium, and Dublin were also delayed.
A Flybe flight from Antwerp, due to land in Southend at 7.10am, landed at 8.25am. The same flight was cancelled due to fog on Monday.
Flights to Newquay and Maastricht were also late.
Flights to and from Stansted, Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton were similarly delayed.
Roger Clement, managing director of the airport, said: “Like the majority of UK airports, London Southend has today experienced some delays to flights as a result of fog in the local area and across Europe.”
