Residents asked for views on proposed Wickford development

COUNCIL bosses are pressing ahead with plans for a new development of homes, shops and a community centre.

Basildon Council wants to knock down two blocks of 1960s flats in Stevenson Way and Brook Drive, Wickford, and replace them with modern buildings.

Plans to regenerate the site have been in the pipeline for several years, but the proposals were put on hold in 2011 because of a lack of cash.

The council is currently seeking a development partner to design and carry out the work, and the closing date for bids has been set for mid October.

The scheme includes major improvements to the local shopping parade, off Nevendon Road, a new community hall and a new housing development.

Residents are now being asked to make their views known before a development partner is selected.

The public consultation process will begin with a Resident and Stakeholder Drop in Day at the existing Park Lodge Community Hall, in Stevenson Way, between 10am and 1pm on Saturday, September 6 Phil Turner, leader of Basildon Council, said: “This development will introduce quality new homes into the area and provide a host of other benefits, in a way that is respectful to the needs of the local community. The scheme will provide a lasting legacy of neighbourhood improvement.

“The consultation event is a great opportunity for residents to come and see the current plans, understand what improvements could be made to their neighbourhood and inform officers of what they would like to see as part of the regeneration.”

Sounds interesting. As a resident of Nevendon Road I'd definitely welcome improvements to the shops and community hall.

You do realise that the lefties on this site think THEY are the only ones entitled to an opinion. Everybody else is a racist.

I would think you are considered the resident ranting riff-raff of the website...and when others challenge you you pretend its all one person posting under different accounts...very disingenuous...bit like you really.

First Laindon, then Basildon and now Wickford.

I am thinking massive amounts of hot air and very very very little action. Well no action at all to be honest.
