A GENEROUS businessman will donate a third of his profits to a teenager with a rare blood condition.

After reading about Lauren Pinder’s plight in the Echo, Benfleet Car Wash owner Mark Wright, 50, will donate cash from a three-day fundraiser.

Lauren, 16, is one of eight people in the country to have klippel-trenaunay syndrome which stops her blood flowing and causes blood clots.

Her mum Amanda, 40, of Chapel Street, Billericay, is setting up a charitable foundation to raise awareness and fund vital research into the condition which affects just one in 100,000 around the world.

Mr Wright said: “I’m a giver not a taker and when I read about Lauren, I wanted to help personally.

“This has become my priority and after meeting Lauren, the character she displays for a 16-year-old is incredible.

“This will be something long term and the business will support her any way we can. It’s hard to hear, when we give so much to people abroad, there is a young girl in this country who needs help.”

On August 29, 30 and 31 the car wash will donate the proceeds from every third vehicle they wash or valet to the fund and for every private ambulance they clean for Caring For You, Mr Wright will donate another £10.

Mum Amanda says she is overwhelmed by the support.

She said: “It’s been absolutely fantastic. So many people are coming forward to support us. We can’t be thankful enough.

“It has taken Lauren a long time to say ‘this is what I have’, but now she feels like people are doing things for her and this will help others.

“She is so pleased that from what we are doing she is going to help change the fortune of other sufferers.”

Lauren is rushed to hospital at least once a month because of blood clots, or her blood not flowing. She also suffered a stroke when she was 12.

Babies with the syndrome are born with visible birth marks, caused by abnormal blood vessels. Varicose veins and limb hypertrophy can develop as the child gets older.
