A MUM who tragically lost her baby and almost died from blood loss during his birth is organising a fun day in his memory.

Sam Warner and partner Lee Grant are on a mission to raise money for Basildon Hospital’s Forget-Me-Not bereavement suite, which supports parents after the loss of a child.

Sam, 24, was about to give birth to their first child, a boy they named Cody, three years agowhen the couple were told he had died in her womb.

She said: “It’s still very hard to talk about, but the support we got from the midwives and the Forget-Me-Not suite was fantastic and that’s why we wanted to organise this event.”

The fun day will take place at Bowers Football Club, in Crown Avenue, Pitsea, on Sunday.

It will include a football match and bouncy castle as well as a raffle with prizes including an i-Pad Mini and tour of ITV’s This Morning studio.

Sam, from Vange, had enjoyed a normal pregnancy until 32 weeks, when a scan revealed she had placenta previa – an often life-threatening condition where the placenta is too close to the cervix.

A further scan four weeks later revealed the placenta had moved to the correct place and Sam was left to carry to term.

However, a few days after her due date, Sam suffered a concealed abruption of the placenta and began haemorrhaging blood.

Within a few hours, she was fighting for her life.

She said: “When we got to the hospital they told us they couldn’t find the baby’s heartbeat.

Words can’t describe the pain of hearing that.

“I lost 11 units of blood and needed a complete transfusion. I don’t remember much except being in agony. I’m lucky I’m here though and I have a lot to be grateful for.

“Obviously, it was such an emotional time, but the midwives were so supportive and thanks to the Forget-Me-Not suite we got a memory box containing a lock of Cody’s hair, a clay hand and footprint and a specialist photographer came in to take a photo of him, which we cherish.”

Sam, a full-time nursery worker, was overjoyed when she fell pregnant again five months after the tragedy.

The couple now have a twoyear- old daughter, Lexi, who was born without any complications.

The fun day will be the second event the couple have organised in Cody’s memory.

In 2012 Sam and Lee took on a skydive, which raised more than £600 for the charity Sands which researches stillborn and neonatal deaths.

Entry to the fun day, taking place from noon until late, is £2 per adult and free for children.
