A MUM of two will take part in the Great East Swim later this month to raise money for a little-known condition affecting the nervous system.
Both of Sarah Storkey’s teenage daughters were diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease last year.
The disease, also known as hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy, is a progressive, incurable condition affecting nerves in the arms and legs, causing sufferers to experience muscle weakness and motor problems.
Sarah has been training hard for the one-mile Great East Swim, on June 21, at Alton Water Reservoir, Suffolk.
Sarah, 37, from Rochford, said: “Day to day tasks can be difficult for the girls and they struggle with chronic fatigue and a lack of dexterity.
“After their diagnosis I decided to undertake a year-long physical fundraising challenge to raise £2,000 for CMT UK.
“I began the challenge in September, CMT UK’s awareness month, and have since swum 15km and cycled 50km every month, so far raising more than £1,000.”
