FOR dancer Kieran Lai, being ejected from Britain’s Got Talent may have been a blessing.

The 17-year-old, from Basildon, was winging his way to the finals when he was dumped by judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams.

Although he had high hopes of making it through, looking back he said it would have left him revising for his A-levels and practising his all-important routine at the same time.

He said: “I’m taking psychology and double maths. It’s a bit annoying the two biggest things of my life happen so close to each other.

“It would have been double the pressure if I had got through. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise.”

Kieran was performing in the semifinals after receiving praise from entertainment mogul Simon at his audition for his routine inspired by the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz.

He took to the semifinal stage to perform again, with high hopes of progressing.

Instead, he was met with criticism, with Simon labelling the routine ‘boring’.

Kieran said: “It’s frustrating. I thought I had a good chance because of the way they portrayed me at the audition and I didn’t expect them to put too much more into my act to develop it further because they liked it.

“Most of the judges’ comments on the semifinals night I disagreed with. However, I did agree my cos-tume restricted me, which was pointed out. If I’d had more time, I would have made changes to it.

“There are a lot of different things involved in a reality TV show. I think for the competition maybe they were looking at other people to go on. I felt like I didn’t need a back story.

I wanted my performance to speak for itself.”

Kieran is now rooting for violinist Lettice Rowbotham, illusionist Darcy Oake and singer James Smith who take part in the grand final tomorrow.

He said: “They’re the three acts I really respect in terms of their creativity. I thought Lettice was really fresh and they gave her really critical comments too, which I didn’t agree with. Darcy is amazing and really supported me. I just have total respect for James’s voice. If I could sing, that would be the voice I would want to have.”

But Kieran thinks rapping duo Bars and Melody may sneak in to win it.

He said: “I think they have got such a big fan base and they’re just loveable as well.

The actual final day will go so quickly for them.

“Whoever wins I’ll definitely be watching. Sadly, I won’t be there because I’m revising for my exams for next week.

“But I’ll be rooting for them all.”

But what’s next for Kieran?

He added: “I would like to try again. I remember two years ago when I first went for Britain’s Got Talent I got four ‘no’s’ from the judges. It destroyed me, but strengthened me at the same time.

“I said I wouldn’t try again, but I did and came back this year more successful.

“I’m going to keep on training hard and maybe create a duo or a group.

“Others have come back stronger. So can I.”
