THE grounds of St Mary's Primary School are a cacophony of sound thanks to a new musical garden area.

The school has just installed a Sound Garden on their field using recycled materials to create a variety of instruments.

The £2,500 garden was installed by The Junk Orchestra Company and has an instrument to suit everyone.

Judy Potipher, the schools learning outside classroom coordinator, said: “I’d seen these in other schools and thought it would be nice to have one for our pupils. All the instruments are made of junk, including flipflops, piping and canisters.

“The children have a lot of fun. It is on their timetables so it is used all the time.

“It’s about trying to get as much teaching outside as possible and teaches the children about music and rhythm.”
