More jobs coming at growing Southend discount store

Southend Standard: More jobs coming at growing discount store More jobs coming at growing discount store

HALF a dozen jobs could be created as a discount store expands.

DiscountUK, in Southend High Street, will close on Wednesday ahead of its reopening as Bargain Buys at 10am on Friday.

The eleventh Bargain Buys to open in the UK, the new store will feature an expanded range of products over 25 departments and will take on more workers.

Manager Caroline Beadell said: “We will be taking on some new staff when everything’s gone up because we’re getting new products with the new set-up.

“We will be looking at probably another half a dozen staff, but it depends how well the new set up takes off.”

The new brand has been designed to rival chains Home and Bargains and B&M Bargains and will stock groceries, home living products, toys, cleaning products, electricals and pet supplies with leading household brands such as Cadbury, Loreal, Fairy and Gillette.

Both DiscountUK and Bargain Buys are owned by Poundworld, which has 240 stores in the UK.

DiscountUK opened in Southend about two years ago after moving into empty high street units.

Sounds good but you only get what you pay for.

We all choose what we want to buy and with so many folk dependent on food banks, anything that saves a few pence is welcome.
Branded goods are not always the best, many yoghurts come from one supplier made to one recipe but packed in different pots, but still folk will tell you one pot is better than another!

It is time the big chain stores had competition, we have been ripped off long enough!

As a rule of thumb, the more a shop shouts about its discounts the more overpriced it is.

Fantastic news, I regularly buy from the pound store, and sell on Ebay for 6 times the price, usually to the French, best part being they pay for the postage, though I recently cleared one outlet of miniature metal watering cans, all 140 of them, my price 10 quid each...

It doesn't take a lot of brains to work out that it's a picture of the High Street in general and not a specific store.
