WELLWISHERS looked on helplessly as a man was treated by paramedics on a busy road after being thrown from his scooter on Friday evening.

The man, whose scooter had a learner sticker on the front, was seen being treated by crews at about 6.50pm on Southchurch Avenue after being in collision with a Volkeswagen Golf.

The accident took place on the roundabout with Queensway, heading north from the seafront.

The man was loaded into an ambulance by about 7.05pm, which was seen blocking the road with its lights flashing.

The casualty was taken to Southend Hospital with a shoulder injury that was not thought to be serious.

A section of the A127 was also closed yesterday evening from about 6.30pm when four vehicles were involved in a collision at Kent Elms corner.

Fire crews from Southend, Rayleigh and Leigh were called to the scene of the accident involving a silver Volkswagen Polo, Ford Galaxy and Nissan Micra as well as a white Ford Transit.

No-one is believed to have been seriously injured in the accident though a number of people were taken to hospital as a precaution.

One person has since been reported for a motoring offence.

Fire crews left the scene at about 6.50pm and the road was fully opened at 8.20pm.
