Southend seafront rammed as annual biker event brings out the crowds

Southend Standard: Crowds flock to the seafront Crowds flock to the seafront

TRADERS have reported a bumper Easter bank holiday as thousands of people flocked to the seafront as an annual biker event rolled into town.

Huge crowds turned out on Southend seafront today as glorious sunshine beamed down for the 16th annual Southend Shakedown.

The fundraiser sees hundreds of bikers converge on Western Esplanade and the Golden Mile to raise money, this year for the NSPCC charity.

A steady stream of bikers flooded into the town throught the day while mass crowds walked along the seafront.

Paul Thompson, who runs Pebbles One Cafe in Marine Parade and is the chairman of the Southend Sea Front Traders’ Association, said: “It’s been a very busy bank holiday. There were thousands of bikers here and a lot of families and it’s been a really good day.”

Derek Jarvis, Southend Council’s cabinet member for tourism, said: “From a visitor point of view to see so many people here enjoying the seafront, I can’t think that’s anything but a good thing for the town.”

Must have been one of the biggest Shakedowns ever, a superb event for the town and all good natured, and on Sunday (27th) it's the second vintage car breakfast meet, last one was really good.

Just shows the real potential for such a place, shame those attempting the airshow failed, as the cash being spent, on not much at all, today could, if heaped up, make another sea wall.

The airshow is aload of cod's wallop. I live near the sea front and each air show my house shakes from the planes I would rather not have a shaking house thanks to some crappy plane that i dont even give a monkeys about flying over my house. The air show was scrapped for a reason.

I dont mind the showdown though thats different. As long they take thier rubbish and litter away with them I have no issues with it. There were some pretty cool bikes down there yesterday saw one that was li a camoflaged one was pretty cool!

Southend need BIG events to draw people in the Shakedown and Airshow are ideal events, perhaps you would like a Hush Show where everyone tiptoes around whispering and car have to be pushed so they don't make too much noise...

get a life woman get a life.
