Save £700 with Essex County Council

First published in Echo News

HOUSEHOLDS can save up to £700 if they follow Essex County Council’s latest advice.

A new video has been launched aimed at helping families save money and reduce food waste.

The average family wastes £700 of food each year and the council is advising shoppers to buy only what they need, cook the right amount and to store leftovers correctly.

The council remind residents that any uneaten food can be recycled in kerbside food waste collection containers.

I'm sure the average householder could do a better job explaining to the council how THEY could save money.

Why should they care, it's not their money.

Essex County Council advising us on waste.

What about the free roast pork, smoked salmon and claret for councillors at County Hall, the chairman's chauffeur driven limo, the all year round air conditioning/heating system and lights left on after hours.. money wasted on daft "minority" schemes some groups and committees are a drain on the public purse too.

I like the idea of the love food hate waste campaign but i struggle to get it to apply to me. i do not waste this amount of food. If they want to make something of what i put in my food bin try making something with coffee grounds, apple cores and tea bags!

all of the recipes require a fully stocked store cupboard, veg bin etc and ive yet to find anything that i really can make with things left over - so i hope there are some families that are making use of the campaign because i struggle to relate to it.

its a tough situation to cater for all i guess
