A RESIDENTS association is expanding after successfully fighting an application for a pub in a Hadleigh park.

The Solby Estate Residents Association has been fighting for the people of Ashdown Crescent, Sherwood Crescent and Hainault Close for the past decade, but now the group will extend its help to the rest of Hadleigh, as the Hadleigh Residents Association.

Chairman Alf Papworth, 80, recently led a successful campaign against the pub in the park plan at John H Burrows after residents objected to Greene King’s proposals to build on the site of the former community hall.

Mr Papworth said he now wants to help the whole town.

He said: “The association is growing all the time and we’ve had a number of successes, thanks to people power.

“We can achieve a lot, I’m sure of that.”
