A WOMAN has denied pretending she had terminal cancer to swindle donors out of thousands of pounds.

Danielle Watson, 23, from Billericay, appeared at Basildon CrownCourt yesterday, charged with six counts of fraud by false representation.

She is accused of falsely claiming to suffer from stage four cervical cancer after launching a fundraising drive in 2012.

Watson allegedly told would-be donors she needed to raise about £6,000 to pay for alternative life-saving treatment which was not available on the NHS.

In April 2012, she married Chris Watson with a reception at the Ivory Rooms in Billericay after the management donated the venue free of charge.

Later, she announced on Twitter she was cured – and also pregnant with her first child.

Fundraising stopped in June 2012, after a supporter raised concerns with the police. Yesterday Watson was dressed in a black jacket and white top when she appeared in court. She denied all six charges against her.

Watson – who now lives in Darkhouse Lane, Rowhedge, near Colchester – is accused of defrauding Danielle Livesey, Keely Murnane, Michelle Robinson, Leigh Stewart, Victoria Oliver and Kimberley Murray.

Her barrister told the court she did not intend to con supporters out of the cash.

Judge David Owen-Jones told Watson she would next appear on July 14 for trial. She was released on unconditional bail.
