Pool thief steals family’s clothes: Centre had to lend swimmers clothes to get home after locker was broken into

Southend Standard: Borrowed clothes – Dee Harrison and five-year-old daughter, Gabriella in the Legacy Leisure shirts they had to wear home from the pool Borrowed clothes – Dee Harrison and five-year-old daughter, Gabriella in the Legacy Leisure shirts they had to wear home from the pool

A FAMILY had to borrow clothes to go home in after their possessions were stolen from a locker at a swimming pool.

A thief stole Dee Harrison’s handbag and clothes, and those of husband, Nick, and children Josh, Billy and Gabriella, as they swam at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre.

The locker door was one of at least two police say were forced open on the same day.

Mrs Harrison, 35, of Eastwoodbury Lane, Southend, said the centre had given her a staff tracksuit and supplied her children with T-shirts because they had no clothes to wear home.

She said: “We had everything in that locker – car keys, house keys, phones, cash and cards.

“Altogether there was about £1,500 of stuff. I even had a payslip from work in my bag.

“It’s scary how much personal stuff you carry around with you.”

After going to the centre’s reception desk in his trunks to complain, Mr Harrison was driven home by an employee to collect spare keys after using a house key kept by a neighbour to get in.

Mrs Harrison said pool operation Legacy Leisure had a responsibility to review security at the centre, because she felt it had been too easy for thieves to help themselves to customers’ property.

However, Legacy general manager David Taylor said: “We take security extremely seriously. We informed the police as soon as we became aware of the incident.

“We continue to work closely with them and we will be providing CCTV footage as part of the investigation.

“While the leisure centre is accessible to all members of the public, our team regularly checks the changing areas and we regard the recent theft as an isolated incident.

“However, we will now be stepping up staffing levels, particularly at busy periods, and would encourage customers to be vigilant at all times.”

Property left at owners risk surely?

I'd say the leisure centre has been more than helpful here, driving them home and lending them clothes. No obligation to do either really.

They provide lockers, have CCTV and reported the matter to the police - what more could they have done?

And £1500 in the lockers? Pull the other one, its got bells on!

Why not just say her stuff was stolen, is there any need to start claiming she had £1500 worth of things in the locker ? Although its possible, I would suggest very unlikely and even if true foolish.

Although the leisure complex will claim that customers leave items in the lockers at their own risk, given the extortionate amounts they charge perhaps they should start taking responsibility.

oooh common sense at last, among all the cynics.

Maybe they had to call out the locksmith too, that would have whacked the overall cost right up.

Most people take mobile phones and keys with them when they go to a public place. I bet most of the critics above go out with ipads or smartphones, jewellery and such.

This family are entitled to have their possessions kept safe while they indulge in a sporting activity.

God, you can't win on here. Take your family out to do something healthy and leave your stuff in your locker and you're wrong.

Sit at home and let the kids play on X box and you're wrong.

With some people, you just cannot win.

Morning Thea,

Oh yes Kim is real, but I wouldn't call her a troll. Google her and read some of her rantings to know that she is real, but far from normal. Anyone that gives out abuse like she does has severe mental issues.

The frightening part is she works in a care home. If my nan was in any care home Kim was working in, I would get them out immediately.

The woman is weird.

It reeks of troll.[/p][/quote]Morning Thea, Oh yes Kim is real, but I wouldn't call her a troll. Google her and read some of her rantings to know that she is real, but far from normal. Anyone that gives out abuse like she does has severe mental issues. The frightening part is she works in a care home. If my nan was in any care home Kim was working in, I would get them out immediately. The woman is weird. Happy Chickie

OMG she is real... and really vile too :-( up until now I thought she was some spotty teen in his Mothers basement trolling as an angry old woman on here!

I actually feel sick after reading some of the stuff I found on Google... what a vile vile human being.

Terrible isn't it? It is shocking that a mother and someone who claims to have worked with the elderly, wants them euthanized.

The woman is indeed vile and there is no place in society for someone like that.

And she needs to get her roots done. LOL

Miaw!
