A COFFEE shop has been given more than £700 of EU cash to help it to become greener.
Carl Watson, owner of Squires, in Rayleigh High Street, collected the grant from the Low-Carbon Business Programme at a Rochford District Council business breakfast event.
He was helped to apply for the EU grant – which has been put towards a new heating and cooling system, which is expected to reduce their carbon footprint by 3.63 tonnes a year.
District councillor for economic development, regeneration, business liaison and tourism, Mike Steptoe, said: “The Low-Carbon Business Programme makes a real difference and I am pleased Rochford districtbased businesses are making the most of this resource.
Businesses who use their resources more efficiently and reduce waste can make a significant contribution to the competitiveness of their own company, as well as the economy as a whole.”
