LIGHTING has been restored at Southend Central station after an earlier power failure.

The c2c rail Twitter said just after 1pm: "Southend Central Station Lighting Failure: Please take extra care. Emergency lighting is on the way while we work to get the lights back on."

The power was restored just after 2pm.

Snails in seafront race:
People were seen diving out of the way of two slow slithering snails as they undertook a slow speed drag race on a wall, people fearing for their lives and the safety of other called the police who turned up in 20 police cars and the police chopper kept watch from above.

However by the time the racers were found there had been a tragic outcome to the hair raising scene one of the snails had been sat on...
