SOUTHEND band the Horrors kept fans guessing when they appeared at the BBC Radio 6 Music Festival.

The band performed at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on Friday night.

They topped the bill on stage two, showcasing the newlyunveiled I See You, but kept tracks from their forthcoming album, Luminous, firmly under wraps until its release later this year.

The Horrors were formed in Southend in 2005 and include lead singer Faris Badwan, guitarist Joshua Hayward, keyboardist and synthesiser player Tom Cowan, bassist Rhys Webb and drummer and percussionist Joe Spurgeon.

Their music has been classified as garage rock, gothic rock and post-punk revival.

Blur and Gorillaz front man Damon Albarn, who is originally from Colchester, also performed at the festival.

He used the gig to unveil tracks from his as yet unreleased album Everyday Robots with his band Heavy Seas.

A BBC report said he told the crowd: “This is our first ever gig and it’s quite nerve-wracking to be not only playing your first gig but playing it live on radio as well.

“But I suppose I should be used to it after all these years.”

He has taken inspiration from his youth for some of the songs.
