Cannot believe anyone would attempt to cross the A127 carriageway and put their - and others' - lives at risk. Especially that part where the maximum speed limit applies.

If you really have to attempt to cross a road like that then its stop...look...listen
, get across safely asap, old wise words but simple, a few factors that could have made the chap loose concentration, on the phone or had a few drinks inside him, was his eye sight perfect..seeing car lights can sometimes be confusing could be nearer than you thought, maybe he just took a chance and crossed and either mis-judged the time it took to get across or just didn't look, he was local all his life so must of known the danger, the bloke in the Seat must be feeling terrible also.

What on earth does this mans ethnicity have to do with his untimely death? If this poor guy was, say, African, would the headline read 'African' killed.

Since you have elected to comment on my comment; perhaps you can answer why this mans ethnicity status is warranted within the headline?

A man born in the England to a father from the African Maasai Tribe

Headline: African Maasai killed on the A127. Warranted?

The Man who died in this dreadful accident was a son, brother, uncle..a human being. His ethnicity status has nothing to do with any of that or his sad demise.

The Echo often changes their headlines as you are fully aware..there is no case of backing down...if they make a mistake they usually endeavour to rectify that mistake if it is pointed out to them..why pretend any different?

If the difference between identifying a human being by his ethnicity and a plot of land by its owners has to be explained to you then it wont be for it would be a waste of time..

But if you feel the Echo needs to change the headline you mention why not ask them to?

They are open to reason..

I used the term "ethnicity status" and the headlines did indeed make mention of the poor chaps ethnicity...which they have not corrected.

Ethenic does not exclusively refer to 'race'

Thus your question is invalid.

The Oxford dictionary states ethnic as "pertaining to race", and there was no mention of ethnic is in the article so why did you start using the word? I

I think you will find the Oxford dictionary cites more than that in regards to the term....

Example:1 relating to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition:

Which fits the bill precisely in regards to this matter.

I never stated there was mention of 'ethnic' in the article....the headline referred to the mans ethnicity...which is why it was removed when pointed out..

If you can't get your head around that nicety then give it a rest!

Also the driver going through hell. Sad little people enjoy being derogatory towards travellers and have done for many years, because they are ignorant little individuals, infact in today's society we could call them racist!!! Would there be arguements under this very sad and tragic article if the headline read 'Gorger Killed' ??? No I think not. So to those who can't show their respects get your dictionaries out and look up the words 'ignorant', 'racist', 'moron'.

Nat, commiseration in regards to your cousin. You are quite right...Lucky was a human being first, the same as everyone of us on these boards..he was then a male and then he had his ethnicity. Unfortunately there are those who can only focus on the latter regardless of everything else.

The Echo made a mistake with the headline highlighting Lucky's ethnicity as if it mattered at such a sad time, they were contacted and they quite rightly changed the headline.

Alas there are some who don't feel Travellers should have the right to be treated the same as they and are complaining about that show of respect by the Echo.

Again Im sure all the decent minded people on these boards send our condolences to you and all of Lucky's family.
