A COMPUTER engineer from Grays has been charged with the murder of a 14-year-old boy from Surrey.

Lewis Daynes, of Rosebery Road, Grays will appear before Basildon Magistrates' on Wednesday morning.

Police had been investigating after a youngster, believed to be Breck Bednar, aged just 14, from Caterham in Surrey, was found with knife wounds at a flat in Rosebery Road at around 11am on Monday.

Daynes was arrested at the premises.

Officers attempted to save Breck's life at the scene, but he was sadly declared dead by medics a short while later.

Preliminary results from a post-mortem which took place on Tuesday revealed the teenager had died as a result of a wound to his neck.

The teenager's family are being supported by police liaison officers.

People have already begun paying tributes to Breck. It is believed he was a year ten pupil at St Bedes in Redhill, Surrey.

On Twitter, Tom Hobden said: "My heart goes out to Breck Bednar tonight. RIP."

Sara Hallen said on the social media site: "Can't believe a year 10 boy from st bede's has been killed, rest in peace Breck."

Shonahh said: "Can't believe this has happened, spent a week on exchange with breck he was the nicest person. Thoughts are with his family. RIP breck."

Angie Gaywood, Thurrock Council's portfolio holder for public protection tweeted: "Saddened to hear the news of the murder of 14 year old Breck Bednar in Grays yesterday. Thoughts & prayers are with his family & friends."
