A PROBE has been launched by murder squad detectives after a teenage boy was found stabbed to death.

At around 11am today, police were called to a flat just off Rosebery Road, where they found the boy with knife wounds.

He was given immediate first aid but was declared dead by medics a short while later.

An 18 year-old-man was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. He was arrested on suspicion of murder.

It is believed both men were known to each other.

On Tuesday morning, a police officer stood guard outside the property in Rosebery Road. Large parts of the street - and a black motorbike with a "L" plate fixed to the rear - have been cordoned off while police investigations continue.

Those who live on the road have spoken of their shock following the incident.

One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said she didn’t know what was going on when police initially arrived at the scene.

She said: “It’s shocking really, all the more because it’s right on our doorstep.

“I didn’t have a clue what was going on when all the police turned up, but when the helicopter arrived we knew it must be serious, but didn’t have clue that someone was dying inside the flat.

“We never heard a thing all day. You’d expect to hear a commotion of some sort with something like that going on.”

A police spokesman said: “Anyone who was in the area this morning at the relevant time and has any information to help the police investigation is asked to contact the Stanway Major Investigation team on 101.”
