A MAN in his seventies has been taken to hospital after sustaining several injuries in a road traffic accident in Rochford this morning.
The pedestrian was hit by a silver Vauxhall Zafira at around 11am on Saturday, February 15 on East Street, Rochford.
Police officers attended the scene and closed the road, allowing paramedics to treat the man before he was taken to hospital and the road was repoened.
A statement Essex Police said: "The pedestrian was taken to Southend Hospital by paramedics after sustaining a variety of injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening."
The incident, on part of the one-way system in Rochford, meant traffic built up in the area and was only cleared at 1.45pm.
Roxie Curry, arts development officer at Rochford District Council, Tweeted shortly after the incident occurred: “Rochford gridlocked. Ambulances and police. Reports of traffic accident in the town centre.”
