SOUTHEND Airport sponsored a star-studded skating event to raise its profile.

The airport supported the Broadgate Ice Rink in the heart of London to celebrate a four-month partnership which sees the airport’s logo emblazoned on signs around the rink while an ice skating event was held with celebrities from ITV programme Dancing on Ice.

The rink, which is open until February 27 and close to London Liverpool Street train station, hosted the exclusive skating performance.

Professional and celebrity skaters, including former English rugby player and Dancing on Ice winner Kyran Bracken, took part in the show.

Mr Bracken said: “Since winning Dancing on Ice in 2007, I’m really enjoying being part of the show again.

“Ice skating has become a real passion, and myself and the team are delighted to have had the opportunity to support London Southend Airport and be able to put on a show the guests seemed to really enjoy.”

X Factor contestant Chico, EastEnders actor Matt Lapinskas, Canadian professional skater Colin Ratushniak, the Oxford Freestylers and worldrenowned Russian Ice Stars all took part in the event.

David Lister, airport operations director, said: “It was very impressive to see the Dancing on Ice stars gracefully gliding across the ice – just like our passengers glide through our terminal.

“It is just 53 minutes into London Liverpool Street from our dedicated Southend Airport train station, less than 100 paces from the terminal building.”

The Broadgate Ice Rink is open daily from 10am until 10pm.
