A COUNCIL is inviting the public to a flag-flying ceremony to mark Commonwealth Day.
Rochford District Council is organising the event on Monday, March 10, outside the Mill Arts and Events Centre, in Bellingham Lane, Rayleigh, which will see a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation read out before the flag is raised at 10am.
The ceremony aims to enable communities to join others nationwide in expressing their commitment to the Commonwealth.
The ceremony will be led by councillor Barbara Wilkins, chairman of Rochford District Council.
She said: “I am pleased the Rochford district is taking part in this nationwide event.
“In this year of the Commonwealth Games, I am proud the council wishes to reaffirm the importance of the Commonwealth and recognize the values it stands for and the opportunities it offers its citizens around the world.”
Glasgow is hosting this year’s games.
