OLYMPIC diver Tom Daley was spotted in a local cafe during a shopping trip in Southend.

Tom, who appears in the ITV diving show, Splash, was seen with some shopping bags in Caffe Nero, in Southend High Street.

He was in town training for the British Gas National Cup, at Southend Leisure Centre in Garon Park, which takes place from tomorrow until Sunday.

Tom, 19, aims to land his first National Cup 10m Platform title, after missing out on the last staging in 2012 due to an injury.

Tom said: “I’m here for the national championships this weekend, at Garon Park, just up the road.

“It’s been good being here actually. I’m always here for training – I love Southend. The training facilities are really good.”

Yesterday, Tom took to Twitter to announce his arrival in Southend, writing: “In Southend for the national championships this weekend!”

He was spotted by a number of people, who also took to Twitter.

@daniellelee96 tweeted: “Definitely just saw Tom Daley strolling through Southend.”

While @maddisontate tweeted: “Not every day Tom Daley smiles at you in Southend! I think I’m in love.”

Tom has frequented Southend many times in the past few years. He visited the area alongside Team GB colleagues to visit the training camp at the pool, ahead of the Olympic Games in 2012.
