Flybe rescues Southend to Newquay flights

Southend Standard: Flybe rescues Southend to Newquay flights Flybe rescues Southend to Newquay flights

A BUDGET airline has stepped in to save a route from Southend to Newquay axed by easyJet last month.

Flybe, Europe’s largest independent regional airline, will fly to Cornwall three times a week between May 16 and September 27.

It marks Flybe’s return to Southend, from where it used to fly to the Channel Islands.

The Newquay route, which easyJet operated four times a week, was dropped last month, leaving many in the lurch. It launched in June last year, carrying almost 8,000 passengers in the summer.

Tickets for will be on sale from today at flybe.com, with one-way fares from £24.99, including taxes and charges.

Let's hope this marks the start of a new relationship with Flybe, who are dropping their Gatwick flights from March. If they want a less expensive London base, why not Southend, which badly needs at least one more major airline with a decent portfolio of flights.

Great news.

Incidentally that means its cheaper and quicker to commute from southend to cornwall than from southend to London.

Let's hope Flybe will eventually operate to other destinations not covered by Easyjet. Great news.

The NIMBYS will be in fits, those prop planes are noisier than the jets.

Oh well, if it annoys one or two I'm happy to endure it.

Where else do Flybe fly to - anyone know??

The flights to Ireland not operated by EasyJet are already operated by props, so (if, in fact, they are noisier, which I see is disputed) I don't imagine it'll cause too much uproar, except the fact there'll just be more of them.

Yeh - like the one to Edinburgh that EasyJet dropped. I wonder if EasyJet would honour a refund for my re-arranged flight there from Stansted if they do? I think I know the answer to this.

Just because you have a ticket you don't have the right to fly, FACT

Yep - that is true and why I will no longer rely on them. It is the sad state of most corporates that only think about profits over any customer service or inconvenience. Along the lines of, we can 'offer you a full refund sir' - yeh, are you going to compensate me for all the hotel accommodation and entertainment tickets that are not refundable and the extra travel inconvenience and expense of getting to/from Stansted - 'of course not sir - how would we make a profit from you?' Hang on though we can put you on hold for another 8 minutes on this helpline and make some more money from you.
