Canvey's third road: Call for private cash to fund research

Southend Standard: Canvey's third road: Call for private cash to fund research Canvey's third road: Call for private cash to fund research

CASTLE Point Council is looking for private investors to put money into a study into a possible third road off Canvey.

The council wants to know if it would be possible to create the new link between Northwick Road, Canvey and the Manor Way, Corringham.

The study would look at howmuch the so-called North Thameside Link Road would cost and the most suitable route for it.

Canvey county councillor Ray Howard said: “There are two things I am determined to do before I leave public life and that is to get another access road off the island and extend Roscommon Way, on Canvey.

“We are looking into funding for this study, which would be the next stage in the process.

“Building the road would bring huge benefits, not just for the people on Canvey, but for people in Thurrock as well.”

It could well be money wasted Ray, it might be a good idea to first get our friends at Thurrock Council's blessing, as it stands at the moment they do not want this and have already publicly said so. I really cannot see private investors queuing up for this one. But we live in hope.

More research needed ? so they don't yet know if it's viable, what a sham, all those past calls for a third road off the devils Island, and no one even knows how or where, God, you couldn't make it up

In hope, but not expectation.

Have a whip round among all the people that have been crying out for a third road for ages. I'm sure they'll all want to chip in to help things along.

How about a donation from Canvey islands numerous and extremely prosperous developers. They are the ones who have received huge profits over the last thirty plus years at the cost of adding high volumes of traffic on here, and they still continue to do so.Then most of them moved off of the island!!

Not quite correct, they know where, they even know how but they just need the important bit, permission needed from Thurrock Council. Pointless throwing any money at this idea until Thurrock Council have agreed to it.
