A YOUNG mum was woken by a bloodied stab victim hammering on her front door after he was attacked by a gang.

The man, 31, ran for help after being viciously attacked in a children’s play area off Luncies Road, Basildon.

The man told witnesses he had been walking to his sister’s house when he was approached by a group of men who began shouting at him.

One of them punched him in the face and he was stabbed twice in the arm with an unknown weapon.

He managed to stagger to The Greensted, where neighbours gave first aid and called emergency services.

The young mum, who helped the man, was woken at about 12.20am on Saturday.

She said: “I was in bed when there was banging at the door and a man’s voice shouting ‘please help me – I’ve been stabbed’.

“I was really scared, but when I saw he was covered in blood I opened the door and he just kind of collapsed on to me. He had two big stab wounds in his arm.

“I got a towel, put it round his arm to try to stop the bleeding and called for an ambulance.

“He was drifting in and out of consciousness so I got him to sing the alphabet with me. I know it sounds silly, but I just wanted to keep him awake.

“I asked him why he knocked at my door and he said it was the only one with a light on.

“It was really scary. The road, the path leading to the park and my porch were all covered in blood.

“The ambulance took about ten minutes to arrive and they took him to hospital.

“After they left, the police came and asked me if I was OK.

I said ‘yes’, but then looked down and saw I was covered in his blood.

“It was horrible – I spent most of Saturday trying to clean up outside.”

Police are hunting the gang and trying to find the weapon.

They have launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
