Holocaust Memorial Day in Rayleigh
A SERVICE to remember victims of the Holocaust and other atrocities will take place in Rayleigh on Monday.
The event is being held at the memorial outside The Mill Arts & Events Centre in Bellingham Lane.
This will be followed by talk and presentation by Kinder transport survivor George Vulkan in the Mill Hall.
The event begins at 12.30pm.
Reverend Alun Hurd, priest-in-charge at Great Wakering with Foulness and Barling Magna and Little Wakering, and the chairman’s chaplain, will lead the service of remembrance.
Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Chairman of Rochford Council, Barbara Wilkins said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is a day for everyone, it’s an opportunity for us to work towards a society that is respectful of everyone.
“We can all play a part in creating a safe environment and do what we can to know and support our communities.
“This year the theme for the day is ‘Journeys’ and we can all take time out of our busy lives to reflect on those who, due to persecution and tyranny, have had to flee their homelands and how this has affected their lives.”
