BURGLARS launched a rock through an elderly woman’s window and then burgled her home after she fled the house in terror.

The 83-year-old was asleep in her armchair when yobs hurled the rock through the window of her home in Methersgate, Basildon, at about 2pm on Thursday.

She fled to her neighbour’s house who then called the police. Officers arrived and found that while the woman was out of her home burglars had broken in.

Police went to the back of the house, spotted a suspect climbing over the garden fence and recovered items of jewellery.

Unemployed David Quinn, 49, of Bockingham Green, Basildon, has been charged with burglary of a property in Methersgate on January 16.

He appeared before Basildon Magistrates Court on Friday.
