HEALTH chiefs are urging people eligible to have a flu jab in south Essex to take up the invitation.

Bosses say it is not too late to protect yourself from flu as the weather gets colder and viruses continue to spread.

For people at greater risk with chronic conditions, including asthma, pregnant women or those aged 65 or over, flu can be a serious and very unpleasant illness.

People in the at risk groups can get the vaccine free from their GP practices and some pharmacies.

Other people encouraged to get the jab include carers, frontline health professionals and social care staff.

This year the scheme is being widened to children with those aged two and three are also being offered a free flu vaccination, using a nasal spray.

The nasal vaccine has proved to be more effective in preventing flu in children than other flu vaccines.
