OFSTED school inspectors have given Eastwood Academy a “good” overall rating.

Inspectors who visited the secondary school in September found pupils started with standards which were broadly average, but their attainment was above average in most subjects when they reached Year 11. They said this level of attainment had improved further since the last inspection year.

The school was found to have made especially good progress in maths.

The inspection report says: “Students have good attitudes to learning. They are courteous to one another and to adults in the academy. Most teaching is good, or better.

“Senior leaders, under the excellent leadership of the principal, monitor all aspects of the work of the academy, and act quickly in response to issues as they arise.”

Areas where Ofsted felt the school still needed improve included provision of more onsite support for students who are persistently absent or at risk of exclusion and reducing the gap between less able pupils and the rest of those in the classroom.
