A CAFE, which helped bring a community centre back to life, is closing this week.

Cafe Valise is due to close on Saturday after spending a year inside Leigh community centre, in Elm Road.

Arts organisation Metal brought in the cafe for an agreed period of a year and it has hosted a number of events, including a recent literature festival.

A statement by Leigh Town Council, which manages the centre, said: “The cafe has proved to be a popular addition to centre activities and the partnership with Metal hosting a number of events in the centre, such as the recent Shorelines: Literature Festival of the Sea has brought a whole new audience.

“Metal will still retain the link with the centre through events.

“The town council and community centre would like to thank Metal for their efforts and contribution and look forward to continuing the working partnership built over the past year.

“The centre is now working on proposals for the continuation of a cafe at the centre and will announce final details later this month.”
