A HEADTEACHER who led a Southend school out of special measures has announced she will be leaving the school at the end of the term.

After four successful years at Cecil Jones College, Pauline Harris is moving on to take up new challenges.

Mrs Harris, who took the school out of special measures in January 2012, said: “It’s been a tremendous privilege to lead the college during this time, and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved together as a strong, ambitious community of committed staff, students, parents and governors.”

Jane Theadom, head of learning at Southend Council said Mrs Harris created a strong foundation for a bright future at Cecil Jones.

“Pauline led Cecil Jones College successfully out of special measures, providing the students with an inspirational place of learning they were very proud of. We appreciate all she’s contributed to education in Southend and wish her every future success.”

Mark Schofield, who’s currently head of Shoebury High School, will take up the executive head teacher role at the start of spring term.
