POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a collision which claimed the life of an elderly pedestrian.

Dorothy Weatherburn, 94, was struck by a green Toyota Corolla in Billericay High Street shortly before 1pm on Wednesday, September 25.

She was crossing at traffic lights, near the Iceland store, when she was hit.

Mrs Weatherburn was taken to Basildon Hospital with serious head injuries and also injuries to her arm.

She was transferred to the Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, she died three days later because of her injuries.

The crash happened at the crossing by the Wildwood restaurant and Forbidden Ink Tattoo parlour.

The scene was shut off to vehicles and pedestrians for a number of hours while police gathered evidence.

Officers investigating her death are still trying to piece together what happened.

They have renewed their appeal and are looking to trace a number of people who saw the collision and the immediate aftermath.

In particular, they are keen to speak to a young woman captured on CCTV standing at the roadside when the crash happened.

She is white, in her early to midtwenties, had her hair in a ponytail.

She wore a blue hoodie, light shorts and dark boots.

She appears to have a tattoo on her right ankle.

The Toyota Corolla was driven by a 66-year-old man, from Billericay.
