Rachel Riley– I’ve sorted the quick step...but I just feel so exhausted
4:50pm Friday 25th October 2013 in Echo News
STRICTLY contestant Rachel Riley has mastered the quick step – despite having to fit in dance rehearsals with a heavy work schedule.
Rachel, from Thorpe Bay, is working 12-hour days as she juggles filming for the Gadget Show, in Birmingham, Countdown filming and then dance rehearsals for the hit BBC show, Strictly Come Dancing.
Her schedule means Rachel does not get a lot of time at home in Thorpe Bay with her husband Jamie Gilbert and the cats Raffa, Beasty and Becs.
She said: “It is a case of eat, work, dance, sleep at the moment and I am exhausted.
“I am in Birmingham during the day filming and then I have five hours of training in the evening, usually 6pm to 11pm. I only get back to Thorpe Bay once a week otherwise it takes up sleeping time.
“As soon as I perform, the tiredness disappears, but then on the night of the show it is hard to sleep because of the adrenalin rush you get.
“But I am loving every minute of being on Strictly so I wouldn’t change it for the world.”
Rachel might be feeling the strain of her packed schedule, but she says the hard work is paying off.
She added: “I think I’m improving.
“I have occasions when I see myself and I can’t believe it is me.
“I actually had a double-take when I watched myself dancing the cha cha, because I didn’t recognise it as me, with the long hair. It was amazing.
“It was a good moment to see myself and think ‘yeah, I’m getting better’.”
