Judge has to break up fight in family court after man attacks his wife
THE court service is reviewing security after two people were attacked in Southend County Court.
During a family case, a 39- year-old was arrested after assaulting two people – one of them apparently his wife.
A judge reportedly intervened in the fight, while a male usher was assaulted as he tried to stop the violence. The female victim was taken to hospital after the incident, on October 10.
The man has since appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court, charged with actual bodily harm and assault by beating.
A spokesman for Her Majesty’s Court Service said: “We regularly review the security of courts, and after any incident we like to see if there are lessons to be learned.”
Southend-based solicitor Jerry Nathan, a former president of the district law society, said: “Security in local courts has always been very good. I’ve never had any concerns.”
