Next stop Paris for our Sherry
BASILDON has its very own princess after a dancer won a beauty pageant.
Sherry Platts is in with a chance of being crowned the Face of Europe after taking home two regional titles.
She became the Face of Basildon, then the First Princess of Essex – the runner up in the Face of Essex competition.
Sherry will now travel to Disneyland Paris to compete against other regional winners from across the continent over five days, starting on November 3.
Sherry, 23, of Pickwick Close, Laindon, is a professional dancer and has performed in a number of pop videos with stars including the Saturdays, Ellie Goulding and Example.
She also works part time as a barmaid at the Gun pub, in Bowers Gifford. Sherry said: “It’s really crazy to think I am going to Paris. It will be really magical.
“I think I have a chance of winning, I have worked really hard and I have the drive to do it.”
Sherry impressed judges with her charity work, raising money for Help for Heroes, brain charity Headway East and Strongbones, which helps children with bone problems.
During the competition next month Sherry will take part in rounds including Disney princess and fancy dress. She may also have to perform a dance routine.
She added: “They look at you as a role model and how you present yourself. It’s about who you are rather than how you look.
Sherry said: “This competition is one of the world’s biggest and well known, making it a massive platform for my career.
“The reason for me wanting to be in this pageant is because I believe that every young girl and woman should feel confident within herself and have the belief that she can achieve anything she sets her mind to.”
The winner of the pageant will be announced on November 8.
