Teachers across Essex to strike in October
10:43am Thursday 5th September 2013 in Echo News
Teachers have announced they will go on strike in October, which could see schools across Essex close their doors for the day.
Members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the NASUWT will strike on October 1 over pay, pensions and workload.
Jerry Glazier, general secretary of the Essex branch of NUT, believes that the strikes will force secondary schools across the county to close.
He said: “We would rather not be taking action but we can’t just sit back.
"Taking industrial action is the only thing that makes politicians sit up and listen.
“We know that the closing of schools will have an impact but we have been left with no alternative.”
