Skills on show as new park is finished

TEENS have been showing off their best moves after an £8,000 refurbishment of Felmores skate park.
Cash was spent on the park at Northlands Park after keen skaters and BMXers wore out the surfaces of the old ramps.
Pitsea councillor, Kevin Blake, managed to get council cash for the project after a group of 14 and 15-year-olds went to him last year.
Mr Blake said: “I am really pleased that we have been able to do this for the youngsters down there.
“A group of them came to me and asked if the council could repair the surface of the ramps and jumps there because they had worn out.
“I gave them my word that if some money became available they would be the first on the list.
“I was so impressed with them that when money became available through savings the council had made,Iimmediately thought of them.”
The work has replaced the old fibreglass surface with a wooden one and is much faster and quieter to ride.
Mr Blake added: “I am not a big supporter of replacing things that have been deliberately damaged but this needed repairing because the kids had been using it so much.
“The skate park down there has been busy for a long time and it is good to see them doing something that keeps them healthy and active. It’s great to give something back to the community.”
