11:30am Wednesday 21st August 2013 in Echo News
A MAN has been sentenced for headbutting the manager of a Southend nightclub.
Joseph Le-Mon pleaded guilty to assaulting Jamie Milne, at Mayhem in the town centre.
Southend Magistrates’ Court heard how 19-year-old Le-Mon was at the venue in the early hours of May5when the incident happened.
Mr Milne had tried to speak to Le-Mon, of Conway Avenue, Great Wakering, about his behaviour when he was headbutted. The victim was left with a gash above his left eyebrow and had to be taken to hospital.
Simon Samuels, defending, said Le-Mon was remorseful for his actions.
He said: “He had a very uncomfortable seven days awaiting his return to court.
“Mr Le-Mon said the aggrieved was aggressive towards him and he initially walked away. The manager wasn’t wearing uniform or anything like that. Le-Mon said when he went to the bar he accepts he overreacted and he shouldn’t have behaved in the way he did.”
Mr Samuels said Le-Mon worked away most of the week and a curfew would see him lose the only free time he had.
He added: “You are dealing with a hardworking man.
“He leaves his home at midday on Sunday and comes back about two or three in the morning on Fridays.”
Le-Mon admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to a 12-month community order.
He will also be subject to a curfew for four months between 8pm and 6am on Friday and Saturday nights, and monitored by an electronic tag starting immediately. He will also be ordered to carry out 18 hours of unpaid work, pay £300 compensation to the victim, £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
