TWO neighbours have reapplied to open a 100-space car park for Southend Airport passengers in their back gardens.

Steve Murray and Jim Peacock have put in plans for the car park behind their cottages, in Eastwoodbury Lane, Southend.

Their last application, for a 150-space car park, was refused by Southend Council because of the disruption to neighbours and that decision was upheld on appeal.

But the pair have reapplied to build a smaller car park on the site, which is cut off on two sides by the extended airport runway and on the others by the new road layout of St Laurence Way and Eastwoodbury Lane.

The closest neighbours, more than 100 yards away, have backed the plans.

But St Laurence ward Tory councillors Mark Flewitt and Adam Jones have pledged to launch a campaign against the plan.
