Burglars strike in Leigh

BURGLARS ransacked a Leigh home causing several hundred pounds worth of damage.

They forced entry to the house in Woodleigh Avenue through a rear pation door between 8am on Monday March 11 and 4pm on Tuesday  March 12

Among the items taken were jewellery, a laptop computer and cash. Anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the road at the relevant times is asked to call Essex Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Don’t get a pation door. They’re obviously not very secure

No they’re not. Their numbers have been reduced dramatically over the last couple of years due to massive budget cuts.
Add to that the views (below) from the clown of our new Police and Crime Commissioner, and you will see we have no chance.

Yellow Advertiser - Thursday, 13 December 2012

The shrinking budget will also leave Mr Alston facing difficult choices about which crimes to tackle. Arguably Essex’s biggest problem is burglary, which has risen steadily in many areas in recent years – but Mr Alston says there is little he can do to tackle it. He would rather channel resources into tackling the high number of deaths and injuries on the county’s highways.
“If you’re a good burglar and you don’t leave a forensic trail, you’re not going to get caught unless somebody grasses you up,” he says.
“I would rather have a really good information campaign to members of the public to buy a decent lock on your front door. If everyone had a good lock on your door and locked it, you’d have far less burglary. That’s the simple fact.
“Burglary matters, but 750 people being seriously injured or killed every year matters a hell of a lot more to me. Preventing road casualties is probably more tractable as a problem than burglary. So what do we really care about? That’s the debate.”

Why not write to him rather than slag off the police in general?

Unfortunately you have to have a burglar alarm - it may be that that your insurance company insists on this as part of your cover, also do not leave lap tops etc., in view. Make sure your house is secure - the police cannot keep an eye on every residential property. I have been burgled twice - in different properties - the burglars are total scum, usually only looking for things they can sell quickly for the cash they need -- bring back the stocks for those arrested and prosecuted, let's see them face the public !!!

I wouldn’t wish a disease on someone especially not Police officers serving a warrant.
I think your comment is disgusting.

If like us your insurance company insists on an alarm make sure the company is Police and Insurance approved.
We had two well known Southend companies in neither were acceptable and one lied to us and said he was Police approved, he was not, and he was dearer than the real police approved company.
A friend of ours got a local company in paid the money then had to get another company in to put a new alarm system in because the first was not accepted by the insurance company or Police.
Be warned in Southend most companies are not acceptable.
Don't get burgled then ripped off by alarm companies.
