Stores given "book of baddies" to keep shoplifters at bay
CAREER shoplifters are pictured in a ‘book of baddies’ being handed out to shop staff to help them identify serial offenders.
All of the stores in Basildon centre - who form part of the Basildon Business Against Crime group - have been given the folder containing pictures and details of the worst shoplifters who plague Basildon.
The move aims to help shop security staff keep an eye out for the worst thieves so they can stop them in their tracks.
The folder contains details of 19 convicted shoplifters - including men and women of all ages - who have got two or more convictions for theft.
Among the worst offenders are individuals who have got as many as 12 convictions.
Anyone else who commits two or more shoplifting offences over the next 12-months will also go into the rogues gallery of thieves.
Currently all of the shops in the town centre, the Eastgate Shopping Centre and the Tesco Extra at Pitsea have been given the folders.
