Cory rescue treasured wedding ring from drain
WHEN Debbie Bines lost her wedding ring down a drain she thought that was the last she would see of it, but she didn’t reckon on the determination of two Cory workers.
Debbie, from Thorpe Bay, lost the ring down a drain at the junction of Rectory Grove and Elm Road Leigh. She called waste contractors Cory Environmental and Matthew Turner, 31, from Leigh and Arron Large, 29, from Rayleigh were sent to deal with problem.
She said: “The ring is a bit loose. It just slipped off and down the drain. I thought I would try Cory the next morning and they said they would meet me there.
“Two young guys searched the drain for an hour and sucked out a load of sludge. The two guys were really excellent and seemed determined to find the ring.
“They got splattered with sludge and still couldn’t find it after an hour so they took their cannister back and emptied it and sifted through it.”
Matthew said: “We did our best to get the lady’s ring back for her. We cleared the sludge out and didn’t find it so we took it back and sieved it until we found it.
“We told the lady we would find it so we were determined. We were glad to help.”
