MAMMOTH marathon man Ian Ramsey has completed the exhausting challenge of running 2,000 miles before the London Marathon.

The 47 year old pledged to hit his target as training for the event in April to raise money for Havens Hospices.

For five months, Ian, from Leigh, has been rising early to run 14 miles to and from work every day and 20 miles every weekend without a day off training.

He said: “It’s been an amazing experience completing 2,000 miles in 20 weeks but I couldn’t have done it without support from family, friends and particularly Havens Hospices.

“I’ve run through bitter cold mornings, torrential rain and all the January snow; but I felt such a buzz each day knowing I was getting closer and closer to my target.”

Ian completed his last mile on Sunday February 17.

He said, “The last mile I ran was uphill in the sunshine. I had the greatest feeling of satisfaction, I felt so liberated and I ran the whole way home with a huge smile on my face.”

But after a few days break, Ian is keen to get back to training for the London Marathon.

He said, “The London Marathon can’t come soon enough. I’m eager to see whether the challenge means I’ll get a faster time or if it actually slows me down.”

Ian has raised over £600 so far for his challenge. To find out more and to donate visit http://www.justgiving.com/Ian-Ramsay1

Well done :)

I am sure Havens will use any money raised wisely and not spend it on trying to build a building on green belt, which has already been refused.

Sadly I am not sure the money raised will go towards the care of patients.
