Teenager jailed for stealing bikes

A TEENAGER has been jailed after stealing bikes from railway stations.

The 16-year-old, who is from Rayleigh, was sentenced to eight months in a young offenders' institution after taking the bikes to sell on.

He had appeared before Basildon Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to two counts of theft of bicycles from Rayleigh and Billericay railway stations.

The offences happened in December 2012 and January this year.

The teen, who was already known to police, was identified after CCTV was viewed from stations as part of a joint investigation by British Transport Police and Essex Police.
