Fire fighters tackle caravan fire in Laindon

TWO caravans caught fire in Laindon on Wednesday evening.

Two fire engines and four police cars arrived at Bourne Close just before 8pm to deal with the blaze which was reported by onlookers as being up to 10 feet high.

Basildon fire fighters wore breathing equipment to tackle the fire, which took almost 20 minutes to extinguish.

The fire is believed to have spread from one caravan to another before coming into a contact with nearby fences and a van.

Both caravans were parked and empty at the time.

It is not known how the fire started.
