A BUDDING catwalk queen is set to take modelling world by storm after making it through to the finals of a national competition.

Kei Sharman, 15, of Mercer Road, Billericay, is one of 37 aspiring models to reach the live finale of the Top Model contest following an eight-month talent search.

With her slim 5ft 7in frame and striking features, she was often chosen to take part in local charity catwalk shows and photo shows.

However, it wasn’t until she began creating a portfolio of images with leading fashion photographer Amy Symons that Kei realised modelling was something she was keen to pursue professionally.

Proud mum Sally, 50, said: “Amy said that Kei was just a natural in front of the camera and suggested that she considered the Top Model competition.
“A lot of parents would be sceptical but everything is done properly. It is chaperones superbly every step of the way and because she is only 15 she isn’t allowed to model swimwear, they are very conscious of her age.

“It’s a great platform for her to make the right contacts and hopefully be spotted.

“We are so proud of her. I know a lot of girls are into hair, make-up and fashion but Kei really is so passionate about it.”

In order to prepare for the live final in London on Friday, April 12, Kei has been taking part in a number of rigorous training sessions to perfect her catwalk strut, poise and facial expressions.

The Mayflower High School student first got noticed for her looks at the tender age of one when she won a local Bonny Baby competition.

She now hopes to catch the judges eyes in the commercial category of the Top Model contest and secure herself a future in the tough modelling industry.

Kei said: “I think I was 13 when I first said to my mum that I wanted to be a model. People have always said I’m photogenic and being a model you get to see the lastest fashions before they come out and get to meet all of these amazing make-up artists.

“I don’t mind if I don’t win because i’m still so young and it’s an amazing opportunity to get this far.”

Her involvement in the competition is also set to boost funds for Children with Cancer UK as all proceeds from votes go towards the charity.
