A FAMILY has been left homeless following a fire in Leigh.

It happened after the blaze started in the kitchen of a semi-detached house in Brookfields.

Firefighters were called at about 10.50am and spent half an hour ventilating the property of smoke. A man, woman and two boys, aged two and four years old, were made homeless.

The Red Cross Emergency Support Team were called to the incident to assist the family.

Having recently supported family through the trauma of a house fire just before Christmas my heart goes out to this family. It is shocking how much damage just smoke can cause to the non-fire damaged areas of a home and how slow insurers are to step in even with 'emergency' assistance. No one tells you to get a loss assessor 'fighting your corner' from day 1 but this would be the best advice I would give to this family.
