Plans for multi-storey car park in Rayleigh as part of new proposals

Websters Way car park Websters Way car park

A BUSTLING night time economy, a multi-storey car park and a new supermarket are just some of the ideas for the future of Rayleigh.

Rochford District Council has published the Rayleigh Area Action Plan which lays out the blueprint for new development in the town centre.

The proposals include more bars, cafes and restaurants to attract more evening trade. A new development for Websters Way car park is proposed which will see a supermarket and multi-storey car park built, better public footpaths between the car park, Websters Way, Castle Road car park and the railway station.

There will also be a new public space in the High Street which could see the existing taxi ranks moved to Websters Way.

The plans are currently on display in Rayleigh Library until January 29 and is open between 9am and 5pm Monday to Saturday.

For more information, or to view the plans online, go to www.rochford.gov.uk.

I wonder which supermarket chain will be allowed to build in Websters Way ?

No doubt approval will be dependent on them financing the multi storey car park ?

This will really spoil Rayleigh forever, and I shouldn't think that high street stores will be over the moon either.

It will take away any character that Rayleigh had.

I wonder if a 'certain supermarket' will help fund a new road layout in it's bid to be sited there ?

Knew it wouldn't take long for something like this to happen in Rayleigh.
It's been going downhill over the last few years.
There are enough pubs along the High Street as it is and more will surely increase the trouble. It's barely a safe place to be over the weekend as it is now.
Some members of the council must be getting some nice back-handers to allow this situation to develop.

Oh dear not looking forward to this we need different types of shops not just restaurants and cafes definately not a multi storey car park we have a supermarket already and now a small Sainsburys in Eastwood Road by the The Chase, I would like to see an antique centre in the town. Didn't they do a survey sometime ago asking for people's ideas regarding changes in Rayleigh, I'm sure better ideas were put forward or did we just waste our time.

Firstly, why do we need another supermarket when there are already 6 close enough to rayleigh high street already. Secondly, why do we need more bars and clubs. Rayleigh is already just restuarants and bars. Our local pubs are using their charm by being swallowed up by Towie type outlets. A multi storey carpark will just be an eyesore and take away the open space of King Georges park. If you ask me, a supermarket is behind the whole idea and we all know how underhanded they can be. Hence a Sainsbury's next door to a Co-op and a Tesco express in a very unsuitable position on London Road.
I think I may just move.

It's not personal, only business, will hopefully generate a lot of profit.

A supermarket in Websters way will mean one thing - traffic jam. It's the most ridiculous idea ever and proves you need one brain cell to be a council planner. There is a Co op at the end of Websters way so why on earth is another needed - it's ridiculous. Go to most of the bars in Rayleigh during the week and they are empty so why more? Seriously do any of these council idiots actually have a brain?
